Tennessee Titans in a glance

The Tennessee Titans acquired their current name in 1999, as they were known as the Houston Oilers since their founding in 1959 based in Houston, Texas, and were one of the original teams of the AFL. They made their debut in 1960 and won the first two AFL championships (1960, 1961). After joining the NFL's unified championship in 1970, they made several playoff appearances (1978-1980 and 1987-1993) without being able to compete for the title. The franchise changed cities in 1997 and relocated to Nashville, Tennessee as the Tennessee Oilers, and two years later took on their current name, Titans. In 1999, they had their most successful season in the NFL to date, reaching the Super Bowl but losing to the St. Louis Rams.
