Minnesota Vikings in a glance

The decision for a new American football team in Minneapolis was made in 1959 by a group of entrepreneurs, Bill Boyer, Max Winter, and H.P. Skoglund, and the Minnesota Vikings were established in 1960. Initially, they had made an agreement with the new AFL for a spot in their league, but after NFL intervention, the Vikings joined the NFL in 1961. In 1969, they won the NFL championship but lost in the Super Bowl to the Chiefs (AFL champions). The Vikings, with several talented players on their roster, continued to have impressive performances throughout the 1970s, making three Super Bowl appearances but failing to win the title. The following years were not as successful for the Vikings amidst many changes in various areas, such as moving to new facilities and changes in team personnel, but from 1987 to 2000, with the exception of three seasons, they consistently made the playoffs. There were also other notable years for the Vikings (2009, 2017), but they fell short of reaching the ultimate goal.
