Indianapolis Colts in a glance

The Colts begin their journey in American football in 1953 in Baltimore as the Baltimore Colts. During their time in Baltimore, they won three NFL championships (1958, 1959, 1968). In 1970, with the merger of the NFL and AFL, they are one of the three NFL teams that, along with the AFL teams, create the AFC conference. In the first year of the unified championship in 1970, the Baltimore Colts perform exceptionally well during the season and go on to win their first Super Bowl. In 1972, there is a change in ownership when Carroll Rosenbloom and Robert Irsay of the Los Angeles Rams come to an agreement to exchange franchises. The history of the Colts changes dramatically when in 1984 Irsay moves the team to Indianapolis after many negotiations about relocation. The Indianapolis Colts, from then on, continue their poor performance that they had since the early 1980s. Their performance starts to improve from the mid-1990s with several good draft picks and gets even better with the selection of Peyton Manning as quarterback in 1998 under new management and a new coach. The years with Manning on the Colts prove to be the most successful with consecutive playoff appearances and a Super Bowl victory in 2006.
