Dallas Cowboys in a glance
The history of the Dallas Cowboys is intertwined with the creation of the AFL championship and the Dallas Texans by Lamar Hunt, as the Cowboys were the NFL's response to the Texas region in the newly formed league. In 1960, the Cowboys were established in Dallas after the expansion of the NFL and would go on to become one of the most successful American football teams. Although their beginnings were challenging, they became competitive from the mid-1960s and even reached the NFL finals in 1966 and 1967. Their success improved even further from 1970 to 1979, having the best record in the NFL during that time, reaching five Super Bowls and winning twice (1971, 1977). In the 1980s, the Cowboys did not have similar success, although they made it to the playoffs several times. The franchise's comeback started in the late 1980s with top draft picks and building a team that dominated for about five years with three Super Bowl appearances and three championships (1992, 1993, 1995). In recent years, the Cowboys struggle are constantly in the playoffs, but struggle to reach the later stages of the playoffs.
