Arizona Cardinals in a glance

The Cardinals are considered the NFL's oldest team, having been founded in 1898 as an amateur football club in Chicago called the Morgan Athletic Club. They changed several names until 1920 and their joining as the Racine Cardinals in the APFA league. Two years later the APFA was renamed the NFL and the Racine Cardinals became the Chicago Cardinals. Despite their storied history, the Cardinals haven't tasted much success during their run. They were declared NFL champions in 1925 after punishing the Pottsville Maroons for a rule violation. In 1947 they won their second title and the following year they lost in the final. In 1960 the Cardinals moved to St. Louis where they would stay for 28 seasons scoring a pretty poor performance with just three postseason appearances. The Cardinals last stop was the city of Phoenix in 1988, where they were renamed first to Phoenix and then to the Arizona Cardinals. Their greatest moment in modern history was in 2008 when they qualified for the Super Bowl final, in which they held the trophy until the Pittsburgh Steelers stole it from them in the final moments of the game.
